User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.2; en-US; rv:1.8.1.17) Gecko/20080829 Firefox/2.0.0.17 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.2; en-US; rv:1.8.1.17) Gecko/20080829 Firefox/2.0.0.17 I suggest that Firefox would create a new approach to efficient advertising. The essence of the approach is in more precise targeting that is defined by the user. Now advertisement targeting is carried out in such way. A web-master defines a list of keywords. An ad-server shows relevant ad. In this case a website is in an intermediate between the users` interests and advertisement conents. I suggest that Firefox would provide a possibility for the user to define one`s interests by his own. A user should have a possibility to describe a set of keywords, that correspond to one`s interests. These keywords should be available for the queried pages to propose relevant content and ads. A web-page should have a possibility to propose a user to extend and to detail the list of keywords with the supposed ones. This suggestion can increase advertisement efficiency and overall use for the surfers. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: - Actual Results: - Expected Results: - -
not security sensitive. This isn't quite the thing to bring up in a bug. It belongs in the newgroups if at all. -> INVALID.

This sort of exists already. Realizing users mostly won't bother filling out a form with their preferences advertisers have tried to create that list of interests on the user's behalf, using "what sites I visit" as an approximation for "what I like". These are known as "tracking cookies", and users who are aware of them seem to think they're evil since every "anti-spyware" product I've seen zaps these first of all.
Now the majority of users say that advertisement bothers them. If users described their interests, then advertisement would become more appropriate and useful. There`s a common thought, that using Internet is simple, easy, fun and so on, that even a stupid can do that. Indeed, it is. But if you want to make it better for yourself, so you _must_ take efforts. At least those people who use Internet for practical tasks, not for entertainment, might rate this feature well.
