Reproducible: Didn't try Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3.

do you use any antivirus software like norton 360? So your bookmarks has been reverted to defaults? could you check in the profile directory if you have any places.sqlite.corrupt file?
Hi, thanks for the help, but I am now slightly dazed as all my bookmarks in the bookmarks folder and on the bar thats between the address bar and the tabs bar have re-appeared, so I dont now what happened there. Also, is the profile folder in firefox directory the same for v3 as it is in the version below 3 as I cant find my profile file
yes profile folder is the same... so has the issue disappear for you?
well it did but its happened again, and when ever I start firefox, a window comes up saying it has crashed and that the crash reporter was unable to log the crash so Im thinking that there's something wrong with the programe, maybe a add on isnt working or somethink like that which is causing firefox to crash everytime, I would unistall it and reinstall but I dont want to loss my bookmarks that I had bookmarked, even though the bookmarks are not shown in the profiles folder. When this happened the first time, bookmarks were gone and no bookmarks were in the profile folder the next day or day after I opened firefox, started as normal and all bookmarks were there
and no, I dont have software like norton 360

that is the command you should enter in WinDbg when the crash/hang happens. post the result here as a comment.
this looks like profile corruption, and bookmarks can eventually be restored. Just create a new profile, open Organize Bookmarks and restore a jason backup from the old profile. Hard to tell what happened here, i'm solving incomplete due to lack of useful informations.
