I have a "." in one of my imap user names. Edit message as new fails on any message in that account because the edit message as new code passes in a uri with the "." escaped trying to lookup the folder, but the uri doesn't have it escaped. This also happens in the kill-rdf repo, because the uri string is the same. I didn't realize until now that it's not specific to kill-rdf.
I believe this is fixed by the patch in bug 557960
