I would like to see the ability to reply to a message with out having to resend back the Attachments (i.e. photos, pdf's. ect..) to the person I am replying.

I was not able to find this feature anywhere, and it would be a nice option to have. It even would be nice to have the ability to make it a default feature to customize thunderbird even more.

This is implemented for images which are attachments of a message and will
be available in the upcoming 3.0 version. See bug 384599 for the back-end and
bug 445088 for a possible front-end implementation of that feature.

No such option exists for images which are part of the message itself (i.e., images embedded into HTML messages). Reverting to plain-text mode or manually removing the images are the current workarounds for these cases, thus having some option to avoid inclusion of such images as well would be helpful.
I'm confirming this for the second part of including or omitting embedded inline images in reply quotes, which were not covered by any of the other bugs. This was mentioned as part of bug 269225, which was closed WFM after the main issue was resolved and that bug lacked sufficient focus to continue.

If this is going to be implemented, the question is if it can be covered by the mail.reply_quote_inline preference introduced in bug 384599, or if this should be rather a separate setting.

Some email clients dicard such images or replace them with markers like "<image001.jpeg>". Most useful I think would be to replace only the larger images until the total amount of image data was below a certain size (e.g. 200K, but configurable in the app options).

Also I don't think there should be a separate Reply option for this. It should be automatic based on the app options.

The rationale is that it is too easy to click the regular Reply button, and only realize you're sending back the same images after you've clicked Send (when you notice it's taking a bit longer than expected), but which time it's too late. Even if you cancel sending, you've already typed the message. How can that now be reverted to one as if you'd clicked a 'Reply without inline images' option?

Reason for allowing some small amount of small image data is that if small logos, signatures, image-based emojis or other small image content are removed, some context may be lost. The idea is to get rid of large photos which there is no point sending back.
