Details

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.0.3) Gecko/2008092417 Firefox/3.0.3
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.1b2pre) Gecko/20081101 Minefield/3.1b2pre

When there is more than one plugin installed that can handle the same MIME type, the user specified plugin (in the applicaitions options) is ignored and Firefox just seems to pick one.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install the Microsoft® Windows Media Player Firefox Plugin
2. Install VLC Video Lan and enable the Mozilla Plugin
3. At this point, both plugins are set to handle application/x-mplayer2, but the Application options lists the Microsoft plugin.
4. Go to http://www.mediacollege.com/video/format/windows-media/streaming/embed-examples.html
Actual Results:
The VLC plugin handles the page

Expected Results:
The Microsoft plugin should handle the page since it is selected in the Applications option.

If the VLC plugin is disabled in the Add-ons window, then the WMP plugin still is not used. It's almost as if the WMP plugin is disabled at this point, but it is not.

VLC seems to take over from all other media plugins.
The application section basically allows you to select if a mimetype should be handled by a plugin (not which one) or something else.

You want a plugin management and that is not implemented at the moment.
marking as dupe of bug 19118

There should be another bug that the plugin in the application list is out of sync
