Sometimes the gmail server have a problem and they report an error directly after Thunderbird tries to login with the username/password.
In that case Thunderbird thinks that the login failed and resets the stored password.
Do you get this error always or only sometimes ?

I found that gmail has transferred the mail client system from POP to IMAP and I request you to take steps because it is not accepting the gmail default setting provided by you. I request you to provide dedicated template for gmail account as earlier in next developed version.

I get similar issues with tb 2.x and 3.0beta. Part of the problem is that gmail support for IMAP is poor. But the really bad thing is that when you enter the correct password, and it is rejected, Thunderbird seems to dump it from the remembered password list. It always presents the password dialog with the "remember password" box unchecked. If you forget to check this every time, it flushes it. That is poor behavior.
An option is needed so that the user can say "my password is OK. Just stop trying to check gmail until it is healthy again"
Thunderbird should NEVER reset the stored password without asking me! Doing this is contrary to the new interface in Firefox. In FF, the user is asked whether he wants to change the store.

IMAP has some password authentication problems... If you set the max connection count low (1 or 2), you should avoid having to see those prompts.
