Essentially the "£" (pound sign) does not always appear. It can be on many sites but I notice it's particulalry bad on Amazon.co.uk. Googling it (not easy either) people say to clear cache. Doesn't always work -and it maybe has nothing to do with cache and more coincidence. Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.0.3) Gecko/2008092417 Firefox/3.0.3 It works fine for me on http://www.amazon.co.uk/ You could try safe-mode; if that doesn't work you could try renaming the file prefs.js (temporarily) in your profile to find out if a custom setting is responsible for your problem. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_Mode_(Firefox) http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_Folder

It can be on many > sites but I notice it's particulalry bad on Amazon.co.uk. Seems you are using the wrong font, maybe selected by user style CSS. If you miss the "£" (pound sign) nrxt time on Amazon, can you please compare your settings to mine: Looking at http://www.amazon.co.uk/ Options Page-Info is showing: Encoding: ISO-8859-1 text/html; charset=iso-8859-1 View->Character Encoding is showing Western(ISO-8859-1) or another encoding if I've chosen another one. Marking a price and looking at right-click View Selection Source shows: <span class="price">£5.94</span> View-Source and searching for 'price' I found: .price { font-family: verdana,arial,helvetica,sans-serif; color: #990000; } Example for Using DOM Inspector http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B000WQKOQM/ref=s9mwsh_c1_at1-rfc_g1?pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_s=center-1&pf_rd_r=12S5J1VGW0GQGZEE08E5&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=162981691&pf_rd_i=468294 'Object - CSS style Rules' selected at right side is showing: .price Line 83 .price Line 331 switching to 'Object - computed Style' I find font-family: verdana,arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: 13px; DOM Inspector will be best to find what is going on, if you know how to use it. Thanks everyone for the comments. I also meant to add that although this does happen more on Amazon than any other place (rarely seen it elsewhere and it annoyed me that it popped up on PCPro) -BUT, never when I'm surfing generally around Amazon.co.uk. However, if I log in and go to sell an item in Marketplace I'd say I get that stange icon instead of the "£" in 2 out of 5 case. I am cookied but not fully logged in. When I do go to truly login I also get this quite a bit about missing plugins: http://img171.imageshack.us/img171/6913/missingpluginsom9.png Nothing is found to install. Never had that problem on any other site. Having read the comments from the kind people above I went into my FF settings and changed the Advanced option in fonts to "Allow pages to choose their own fonts" -like this http://img231.imageshack.us/img231/7789/allowpagestochoosetheirjm2.png Note my ticks/choices/dot don't appear in FF3 Tools selections (never have in 3+) or Addonon selections/options, but that's another matter :p They do engage when I apply but don't (never have) appeared in FF3 and of course when I go back in I can't see what it is I chose as there's no indication/highlight (dot). Anyway, that option allowing sites to have their own fonts seems to have worked so far. I'll report back if it doesn't and thanks again.
