User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; es-ES; rv:1.9.0.3) Gecko/2008092417 Firefox/3.0.3 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; es-ES; rv:1.9.0.3) Gecko/2008092417 Firefox/3.0.3 This is a request of feature. While starting Firefox, if a new update is available, and update is clicked, we need to wait for the download to start working with Firefox. The feature I ask for, is to introduce a new button that it does "download and install next time Firefox starts"... This thing may lets us start working with Firefox, without interrumpting until the download succeeds. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Install an older extension (any) than the newest available 2. Start Firefox (Prompt for extension update happens) 3. Click on update button (or similar name, i'm using spanish version) Actual Results: Need to wait until download happens Expected Results: Download happens in the background and the extension is updated de next time Firefox is started. This is an enhancement request, to let users spent less time, waiting for extension updates. When opening Firefox, we could (usually need) to start working with it inmediatly. I don't know if this thing happens in all platforms.

My feeling about this is that problems may happen because the old extension version is not compatible anymore.

When an update is available, and after manualy applied the update from the "Extensions" window, a message shows something like: Firefox needs to be restarted to made the changes effective. And I think the old version continues working without problem. Could this mechanism be applied the same way? Or made available an option that updates are checked(?)/downloaded while in the session, not at the start moment. I think this helps simplifying Firefox's behavior to the users view.

Not a dup of bug 408546. Mauricio is asking for something different, something more similar to bug 307181 for Firefox itself.
