User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.9.0.3) Gecko/2008092417 Firefox/3.0.3 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.9.0.3) Gecko/2008092417 Firefox/3.0.3 Not every machine on which I've installed Firefox on suffers this, but some machines, whether it's a automatically checked for update, or I preform it manually, when Firefox restarts, the Add-ons window reopens with the restart. And like I said, not on every machine. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3.
I thought it does this by design to inform you of newly added extensions and themes, in case malware tries to sneak something in without you knowing.
This is on the update of extensions, when Firefox detects an update, it informs you on launch of the session that there's updates available for you to install, plus gives you a list of such updates. At which point you have the option of ignoring them, or reporting a problem if you perceive one. It's after it installs an update that on some of my machines it pops up the Add-ons windows showing me the list of installed Add-ons. And if it's by design to do that, it should be happening on all my machines. Seeing as it doesn't, that means there must be a method of turning off the aggravation, or enabling it.
Firefox doesn't make it clear it wants to warn the user on something. As an average user, I saw this just as an annoyance (which brought me here), not as an advice - I would never think something is wrong if the window just popped up without an earlier update. Suggestions: 1.Change the annoying window for an one-line notice in the browser main window. OK, it can be red, bold and flashing - still better than a pop-up window IMHO. It just have to call the user's attention that something was updated. And - most important - the notice has to tell the user that, if no update was seen, something is wrong. Users should be able to kill the notice with a single click (an 'x' or something). 2.Or - even better IMHO - detect any unexpected change in the software, and pop up a window - red, bold, flashing, shouting and running in circles - showing something is definitely wrong. No notice otherwise. 3.Change the severity of this bug to "Enhancement", since this doesn't seem a defect. A poor choice, at most... I've seen this happening in every Windows 2k installation since FF3.
This is an annoyance, and uneccessary confusion for user - being faced with the add-ons window with no explantion or obvious button to click apart from 'find updates' - which I have just done haven't I ? (winXP-although I suspect all os's) . :perhaps a flag on the install updates button which tells this screen not to appear this time?

I'm confused, what is it that I'm looking to test for? My issue was with the add on window popping up after an update, which, while annoying, is not that big of an issue over all. But not on all my machines, on a couple of machines, after preforming an update, whether manually or via firefox informing me that there's an update available on launch, the window doesn't show. So am I supposed to check that the machines which don't show the add on window after updating shows the window? Or that I can set some user preference to not show the window unless it's an install of a new add on? Would prefer for the window to always show after an install of an add on, that's how I was able to detect the Microsoft hijack.
