465126 - clicking of 'installed plug-ins' under 'help' on sys menu still crashes camino

I re installed OS 10.3.9 per your suggestion. Safari now goes to browserspy.dk without incident, iCab always went there, Camino now goes there without incident (I haven't opted for all the browserspy options yet) .. but Camino still crashes when I request 'installed plug-ins' from the help menu. I have a textedit crash repost for submission.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. boot system
2. open camino
3. click on help menu option 'installed plug-ins'
Actual Results:  
camino crashes

Expected Results:  
showed me what plug ins are installed!

I don't believe this to be an OS system problem because Safari, Camin and Opera now go to browserspy.dk without incident  (haven't tried all browser probes yet). Camino still crashes re above info!

This still looks like something is wrong with the JVM. When you said you reinstalled 10.3.9, do you mean you did a complete OS re-install from scratch, or that you re-applied the 10.3.9 update?

Yep! I completely re-installed 10.3.2 .... then I updated to 10.3.9. One bizarre thing is that using MacScan to clean up it always sees 2 cookies; every since I got the original 8 tracking cookies that caused system crash. I clean up everything and can immediately redo the macscan and it still sees 2 cookies .... can't figure it ... something awry here! Tried to isolate where the cookies are ... but can't do it. Doing a custom scan with macscan always finds 2 cookies, even when restricted to some simple documents only folder.

I'm not sure what you mean. What's going on here has nothing to do with cookies, nor are cookies capable of causing crashes.

Two  of the original TRACKING cookies that I got were yieldmanager.com tracking cookies. From what I can determine searching the www is that they are capable of acting something like ActiveX ... and I did, before I started having crash problems note that the cursor would just drift up with a mind of its own and click on a menu item. Anyway, when I cleared the TRACKING cookies 6 were deleted but for two of them, which I believe were yieldmanage tracking cookies, Macscan only provided an 'isolate' option, which is what I believe happens when sypware is encountered.

Whatever you read was completely incorrect. Cookies are not capable of running code, period, nor can they accurately be referred to as spyware. Cookies have nothing to do with your cursor moving, and nothing to do with a JVM crash.

Have you also installed all of Apple's Java updates through Software Update?  I'm pretty sure that there are some that appeared after 10.3.9 itself was released.

answer to comment #6: I agree completely. The problem is that Macscan shows me, when I run it, that 4 spywares have been found and corrected ... however, it never indicated ANY spywares on any scan ... only tracking cookies ... and as I said before some, of the tracking cookies correction didn't indicate a deletion, only an 'isolation'. Perhaps I/we are looking at a spyware that causes any examination to interpret it as a 'tracking cookie' ... I don't know. I'm throwing in the towel at this point.

answer to comment #8: Yes ... I downloaded the latest 10.3.9 java fix ... absolutely nothing changed, so it must be included in my original copy of the 10.3.9 update. I downloaded (just now) from Apple the 1.4.2 java update/install (whew ... long download). It appears to be there now (1.4.2), but camino still crashes when I click on the menu item 'installed plug-ins'. I'm really sorry guys, don't wish to make your life more difficult. I'm throwing in the towel.

Apple software updates shows me:
1. java security update    41.6 Mb
2. security update     49.7 Mb
I only have dialup connection ... so about 3min/Mb download time is what I'm looking at. I need to set aside this time.
To put your mind at rest Opera, Safari, Camino (recognized as Netscape) crash anytime the JVM is called for. iCab won't crash but it doesn't always supply what is asked for. Surfing the web for possible solutions finds lots and lots of JVM problems .. so, I can't tell if It's Apple's system or due to a spyware/malware hack. Like I said, I've gotten confusing reults using MacScan .. like Macscan now shows 4 spywares having been detected ... but I monitored every scan and it never found any spyware .... only tracking cookies, some of which it 'isolated'. I really miss the Apple II days!
