stay black in best case. crash in worst case

this page worked good with m16.
with m17 build 20000720, it was all messy
with m17 build 2000072608, it stay black, and sometimes (it appears to happen
when i roll the wheel of my intellimouse explorer with intellipoint 3.0), it
crashes.

Half dupe of 46392. If there is a reproduceable issue with the mousewheel
scrolling, please file a bug for that. But first, search for an already-filed
bug, because there are many already logged against scrolling and mousewheels.
