User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.0.4) Gecko/2008102920 Firefox/3.0.4 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.0.4) Gecko/2008102920 Firefox/3.0.4 When using firefox over slow-speed remote connections, such as VNC, X11 or RDP, everything that moves on the display is causing unnecesary waiting time. This includes animated gifs, animated menus, flash objects, javascript effects, and so on. I can workaround some of them by disabling gif animations from preferences, by using flashblock extension, by turning of operating systems' gui effects. However, top and bottom bars that appear in firefox, such as 'remember password' prompt or noscripts' javascript block notifications appear with an animated transition from 0 percent visibility to 100 percent visibility. What I'd like to see is the user controlled preference of disabling firefox' user interface animations. Thank you! Reproducible: Always
Flash can be disabled in the Add-ons Manager window. Javascript effects in Options > Content (or with a button), marquees with a userContent.css code.
The settings requested in bug 456620 should solve this problem. The motivation behind that bug is preventing motion sickness rather than improving remote-display performance, but for most transitions, the fix should be the same. (One possible exception is transitions of opacity rather than of motion.)

i tested as directed on a freshly default installation of sp3-slipstreamed windows xp professional virtual machine and animations are still present on v3.6.10 also the "firefox found x updates for your addons" pop-up is animated in v3.6.10 however with the imminent release of version 4, i tested v4b6 and notice the following: closing "know your rights" pop-up still shifts entire web page (also related to the bug with motion sickness - https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=456620) "remember password" prompt does the same page content shift noscript bottom bar still fades in/out when appears/dissapears more, tab closing and opening adds MORE animations! the tab place is animated when expanding to reach full size and stretching to dissapear!!! thank you.
