We might port Bug 416274 to Sunbird to get system proxy support in Linux as already available in Firefox and Thunderbird.

"Unfortunately" a Sunbird patch. Thanks for looking into this, it will help the new Sunbird maintainer (if one shows up), but right now we don't have a reviewer that can take care.

I'm going to cancel the review request here so its not always on the list of reviews. I hope at some point we can either manage a new sunbird or a fully integrated lightning that can disable mail features.

This issue is no longer needed because all code specific to proxy setting was Sunbird-only and has been removed.
