perhaps fallout from  Bug 319831, search local folder doesn't offer search sender "doesn't contain"
I assume by "Sender" you mean the arbitrary header "Sender" which you have added, and not the internal Sender type (which is called From in the message filter displays). This bug should apply to any arbitrary header.

Looking briefly at the code, I don't see any fundamental reason why this needs to be this way. Really the only additional complication of arbitrary headers in the local case is that it will also scan the body if the header is not found in the message database.
