User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.0.4) Gecko/2008111315 Mandriva/1.9.0.4-1mdv2009.1 (2009.1) Firefox/3.0.4 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.0.4) Gecko/2008111315 Mandriva/1.9.0.4-1mdv2009.1 (2009.1) Firefox/3.0.4 When using Firefox 3.0.x on my Mandriva Cooker system, I notice that its memory use (as shown by top) grows in time. It starts from about 3% of my 3.5 GB of RAM and gradually increases up to 10% and more, before I restart it. This is probably an indication of a memory leak. I have quite a few plugins, but as far as I recall, it also happened without any of them. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Start Firefox on Mandriva Linux Cooker/Latest. 2. Use it for a while with Flash and Java enabled. 3. Monitor it using top Actual Results: The memory usage increases Expected Results: The memory usage should mostly stay the same.
Do you get this with http://support.mozilla.com/de/kb/safe+Mode ? This bug isn't very usefull and will be marked incomplete without more information. You might want to read : http://dbaron.org/log/2006-01#e20060110a and http://dbaron.org/log/2006-01#e20060114a
To make this bug more useful, you should give more information on what you do exactly that will make this "leak" occur. Like, what site do you go to, extensions, Safe mode, etc.
The extensions I have activated: * Better Gmail 2 * ChatZilla (installed and activated, but normally not invoked). * Flashblock. * Greasemonkey. * JavaScript Debugger (Venkman) * NoScript * Site navigation bar. * Split Browser * StumbleUpon * Tab Mix Plus * Uppity * User Agent Switcher * Web Developer I'll write about the web-sites I visit often in a different post.
OK, some of the web-sites I visit are: * http://www.mapa.co.il/ (not often) * http://lwn.net/ (various articles there.) * http://rt.cpan.org/ * http://search.cpan.org/ (many pages there). * http://slashdot.org/ * http://www.brainbashers.com/ - the various games there (only recently). * http://www.logicgamesonline.com/nurikabe/archive.php - playing the various puzzles there daily. * GMail * Search using google.com (also their image search and occasionally blog search). * LinkedIn. * Facebook. * YouTube * http://www.joelonsoftware.com/ * Flickr * http://www.ozyandmillie.org/ - I view and transcribe the comics in the archive. * http://www.whatsup.org.il/ * Various blogspot and livejournal blogs and many wordpress, etc. blogs. * SourceForge.net * Wikipedia, Wiktionary, Wikiquote, etc. * http://stackoverflow.com/ I think that covers most bases.
Shlomi, to make this bug report more productive, please try to reproduce using no extensions loaded at all. You can do that either by using safe mode, or creating a separate profile (in the application level, no new user required on the OS).

So far the memory use has increased from below 3% to 4.2%. I'll run it some more to see if it increases beyond that. Regards, -- Shlomi Fish
You can also try in a new profile with no changes.

Can you please try with a new profile. http://new.quality.mozilla.org/bug-writing-guidelines has some links to help diagnose mem leaks.
Also, make sure you Flash is at version 10, and your Java is at Version 6 Update 10.
(In reply to comment #9) > Can you please try with a new profile. Instead of safe mode? In addition? Or is safe mode enough? > http://new.quality.mozilla.org/bug-writing-guidelines has some links to help > diagnose mem leaks. Thanks, I'll read that.

(In reply to comment #11) > Instead of safe mode? In addition? Or is safe mode enough? You have already tried in Safe Mode in your current profile, and the issue still exists. So you should create a new profile, which is practically the same as a fresh installation of Firefox. It will restore any corrupted files, which Safe Mode can't. You can do Safe Mode in a new profile, but it should not be necessary.

So I can confirm the problem exists in a new profile.
please retest with current version and narrow the issue to either flash (which likely isnt' a firefox bug) or to firefox only (without flash). to exclude flash from running you can use flashblock add-on.

No reply, INCOMPLETE. Please retest with Firefox 3.6.8 or later and a new profile (http://support.mozilla.com/kb/Managing+profiles). If you continue to see this issue with the newest firefox and a new profile, then please comment on this bug.
