I had mentioned this earlier and its something for us to implement in phase II. Currently, all designs are sent to all product templates through the API in the "create your own category". This is great, but some designs are intended for light/white apparel, wile others are intended for dark/black. And when mixed up the result is not pretty. (example is attached). In addition, horizontal designs such as this: http://www.zazzle.com/cr/buffet/cn-238208263978450678?ax=Inline&br=False&cg=196666516716132423&ed=True&r=5014690 and this: http://www.zazzle.com/cr/buffet/cn-238208263978450678?ax=Inline&br=False&cg=196666516716132423&ed=True&r=6798950 blow up on the t-shirt and are way too big. This is another thing that we can fix through the API to send the designs to the right product templates. I spoke with Zazzle, and it would work as follows: We currently have one category "Create Your Own". We will need 6 product categories for the templates. 3 color options, 2 additional for each to designate the layout between horizontal and vertical. (snapshot also attached) 1) Create Your Own (Dark apparel only) --> Horizontal vs Vertical 2) Create Your Own (Light apparel only) --> Horizontal vs Vertical 3) Create Your Own (both light and dark) --> Horizontal vs Vertical We'd need to update the admin tool to allow us to categorize each submission, which would designate the API link it is given. Conceptually it sounds simple, but not sure how complicated it would be to code this. Just wanted to start the discussion and share the information I have so that we can work on it together and see how to fix it. Ping me with any questions you may have. Thanks!
PS. Zazzle is creating the 5 new product categories and should be done by end of week. They will remain hidden in the gallery until we need to use them.
Please let me know if this merits a new bug as it may be dumping too many action items into this one. This is a follow up to the bug we closed on Friday (bug #467957). Currently the store auto links to templates with a Firefox back, but we need to create default back designs to address other community marks as well. As a short-term solution, we have blank backs in the product mix. But we need to create separate product categories per mark, and link as appropriate. This will get a little complicated since we also need to address the issues stated in Comment #0 with respect to layouts and dark/light apparel. Then we need to update the admin panel for us to send the designs to the right templates. For example check boxes that indicate which mark the design is based on, and which layout template is best suited for it. We'll have to see what the best, most organized solution would be. Cause I sense a bunch of new templates have to be created for this. And then we need to make sure that the right API links are used when people click on the designs. Just some fodder for more discussion.
I think this warrants a quick meeting to discuss all the details. Especially considering all the other bugs that are related to Zazzle links/pages. We should then create some written specs to follow.
OS: Mac OS X → All
Hardware: PC → All
Sounds good.
Target Milestone: 2.0 → ---
First round of work on this will involve adding these options to the admin panel: * Pick light OR dark apparel, which will appropriately link the design. ** If option is not picked, use a default (current link) * Pick horizontal or vertical, which will appropriately link the design. ** If option is not picked, use default (current link) If one option is picked and not the other, default to the current link.
Target Milestone: --- → 2.1
Per conversation with Tara, we will not be implementing this feature.
