The problem is easy to reproduce.
Create a bookmark and check "Load this bookmark in the side panel" (translation
from the french version).
If you select the bookmark from the bookmark menu, the page opens in the FF
side panel but if you use the autocomplete adress bar, the bookmark opens in a
new tab and not in the side panel as desired.

I report this bug again caus it's not been resolved but a original bug report [Bug 441404] was set to resolved in automatic bulk closing

Confirming (on Windows XP, latest trunk) for consideration. If you load the bookmark from the locationbar (even if this bookmark has never had any history), it doesn't load in the sidebar.

Bug 451915 - move Firefox/Places bugs to Firefox/Bookmarks and History. Remove all bugspam from this move by filtering for the string "places-to-b-and-h".

In Thunderbird 3.0b, you do that as follows:
Tools | Message Filters
Make sure the correct account is selected. Click "New"
Conditions: Body   contains   places-to-b-and-h
Change the action to "Delete Message".
Select "Manually Run" from the dropdown at the top.
Click OK.

Select the filter in the list, make sure "Inbox" is selected at the bottom, and click "Run Now". This should delete all the bugspam. You can then delete the filter.

load is sidebar feature has been removed in bug 1452645.
