Recent i686 (i.e. 32-bit) mozilla-central builds of Linux always crash
on startup on my Ubuntu 7.10 (32-bit) machine.  I'll post a gdb trace
in my next comment.

Here's a regression range:

I can't figure out which patch (in this range) might have
triggered/caused the problem.  I also assume that my problem is
(somehow) specific to my setup -- if every Linux user had this
problem, there'd be *lots* of complaints.

The problem doesn't happen with today's 1.9.1-branch and 1.9.0-branch
Linux i686 nightlies.

Here's a gdb trace of my crash on startup.

I made it using an opt build with debug symbols that I built from
source.  But for some reason it contains no browser-specific debug
info.

I ran the browser in gdb by changing to my build's [obj-dir]/dist/bin
directory and running './run-mozilla.sh -g firefox-bin -d gdb'.

By the way the same crash also happens in recent Linux tryserver
builds ... on my system, at least.

Side note:  When I run a recent nightly or tryserver build, I often
see Breakpad come up.  But, though I tell it to submit a bug report,
it spins for a long time without doing so.

I get the same crash (at gdk_x11_get_default_xdisplay) running today's
x86_64 nightly on my 64-bit machine (also running Ubuntu 7.10).  Its
stack trace is slightly more informative.

Turns out this was caused by the patch for bug 460926, and is a dup of
bug 468845.

And wherever I mentioned Ubuntu above I should have said Kubuntu
... since (like the reporter of bug 468845) I'm also running KDE 3.X.
