User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-GB; rv:1.9.1b2) Gecko/20081201 Firefox/3.1b2 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-GB; rv:1.9.1b2) Gecko/20081201 Firefox/3.1b2 URL in the location bar will still remain there ever after using clear recent history. After I have cleared the history, the same website I visited will still appear in the location bar instead of clearing it. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Normally use Firefox 3.1b2 2. clear recent history Actual Results: History of website in the location bar do not get erased. Expected Results: History of website in the location bar should get erased. The location bar should be empty or filled with bookmarks.
The the URL have a gold star icon or a tag with words on the right side?

(In reply to comment #1) > The the URL have a gold star icon or a tag with words on the right side? no. they don't. after clearing history URL left should be bookmarks or tags, but some of them just are not.

(In reply to comment #2) > http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Clearing+Location+bar+history > http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Smart+Location+Bar It is not that I do not know how to use the clear private data function. I am pointing out that in the Firefox 3.1 Beta 2 by using the clearing recent history function, it is not possible to clear all the history in the location bar. It may be a minor bug.

As to the clearing history menu item, I just want to make sure you have that set via the options to actually clear the recently visited list. (if you don't get the checkboxes on click, then check tools->options->privacy->private data->settings) I'm personally not too thrilled at the renaming to "clear recent history" because clearing the history is not a required setting for the option. Then try Firefox safe mode or a new profile to see if the cause is any of your add-ons or something else in your profile: http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Managing+Profiles

I am sure they are not bookmark, because it do not have a golden star beside them. Are you sure this is not a bug? When i tried this (clearing private data) in Firefox 3. All URL are gone, it is left only with bookmarks.

it's a livemark child, it does not have a star, but it's still a bookmark... should be a child of Latest News feed in the Bookmarks Toolbar.

(In reply to comment #9) > it's a livemark child, it does not have a star, but it's still a bookmark... > should be a child of Latest News feed in the Bookmarks Toolbar. so they are susposed to remain there even after clearing recent history? Sorry i thought it was a bug.

Confirming for further thoughts, could be a WONTFIX if we don't want to change actual behaviour.

Or maybe make the UI a little more intuitive, I think there's been quite a few reports about this confusion, so maybe add some indication that it's actually a livemark. (at least this should be in the support doc).

I think it will be better if you indicate livemark with a symbol like how you indicated bookmarks with stars. ( and state in documents or websites that livemarks will remain after clearing history) so that if you decide not to change any actual behaviour, it will draw less confusion.

really, imo, the best thing would be to tear away livemark children from bookmarks table in the backend... and we are considering that for a future version.

Marco, for the record, I have seen loads of threads like this on mozillazine. I'm sure others from IRC can also say they see lots of people complaining of the same.

Marco: If the case is that this is from a visited RSS feed, then isn't this is a dupe of bug 450558 which is duped to bug 439129? (not sure since you've commented in that one too and not confirmed it) What's the difference between these bugs, if I'm missing it?
