Most likely the download was not successful, try redownloading it and
installing, in the future use http://support.mozilla.com for such requests.
Please indicate here if this solution worked for you.

I also am experiencing this problem. Attempting to reinstall Firefox causes Windows XP to freeze. Attempting to uninstall Firefox also causes Windows to freeze. What originally caused the problem for me was Firefox automatically updating while I was away from the computer. When I returned, the installer said that Firefox was already running, and to try again after closing Firefox. After closing Firefox, and checking Processes under the Task Manager to double check that no firefox.exe was running, I tried the automatic update again to no avail. After restarting my computer, this is the error I am recieving.

Firefox can not cause windows XP to freeze, so that must be something else interacting with Firefox. Please go to support to narrow this down, http://support.mozilla.com/.
