It has been happening for many months. I start Thunderbird in the morning before I go to work. When I get home the space between the Status Bar and the Windows frame has grown to various widths. Today it was only about 1/2 an inch. It up to three inches. I never know when it happens or what causes it. I have been watching it happen for several months, but have never been able to identify any cause. Reproducible: Sometimes Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3. Actual Results: N/A

I should add that the only way to reset this occurrence is to exit Thunderbird and restart the program.

Dupe of bug 420704? Tried without extensions? I think this is often caused by lightning.

If this is a Lightning issue, can this bug be transferred or does a new bug report have to be opened?

I believe there already is one open on lighting for that...

Richard, can you try running in safe mode? (either run thunderbird.exe -safe-mode or there's an option in the start menu). If it doesn't happen in safe mode, then it is an issue with one of your extensions.

I have been having this problem as well. For me, it *always* occurs when I connect to my system via Remote Desktop. The amount of space is seemingly random, and the more I connect to my system without restarting Thunderbird, the more this space grows. I will try running in safe mode for a while to see if it fixes anything; if so, the only extension I'm using in Thunderbird is Lightning, so it would probably be the culprit.

Ok, that seems to have fixed the problem, so it does look like a Lightning issue (for me at least).
