(In reply to comment #0) > I think we might want to release note this or something (not sure how) -> relnote keyword Quoting one of the posts from the Adobe thread you linked to: (noIQ on 11/27/2008 12:27:36 PM said) > I have talked to Sony about this and we have reached a workaround. > > it involves a file called BtwVdpCapFilter.dll (it is a bluetooth profile > that essentially allows people to share their webcam across bluetooth BUT > no one uses this) and it is what is crashing when you access the webcam > thru IE/Firefox/Opera. > > So go to C:\windows\system32 and rename it to anything for example > BtwVdpCapFilter1.dll and everything should be fine. Sony said they will > be releasing a patch for this. Simple enough workaround, at least.
Keywords: relnote
Not gonna relnote this; it's not just a Firefox problem, and it doesn't look to be frequent.
Keywords: relnote
May be related to the recent spate of Facebook crashes (just filed bug 486809)
See if this driver update from Sony fixes your problems? http://dlv.update.sony.net/pub/vaio/download/EP0000166578/EP0000166578.exe
Keywords: topcrash
This is a broadcom driver issue from what we've been able to figure here.
I don't see how we could "block" a Firefox release on this -- is there anything we could do in our own code to fix or mitigate it?

kev, ss, any contacts at sony/broadcom?
No. And I really don't think this should be assigned to someone who happens to be at sony.com...

Picking this up. It looks like BtwVdpCapFilter1.dll is the known culprit and a patch Sony released for their driver appears to fix the issue. http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Chrome/thread?tid=3bfdcb89727b109a&hl=en&fid=3bfdcb89727b109a00046a6029756d15&hltp=2
