search results

On Thunderbird 3.0b1 on OS X 10.5.6 on a MacPro, I search for ebay (or ebay.com) and essentially get all my mail messages. See attached.

The search was set to Subject or From. But it did work after I opened that pane and clicked it.

Comment 2

I actually had the same experience - but haven't seen it after the one time + restart.
Target Milestone: Thunderbird 3 → ---

i see more problems with quick search. all of the listed cases have been tested *without* leaving the quick search box. so my cursor has always been inside the box and i have never clicked anywhere else.

i tested all listed cases with build:
> Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-US; rv:1.9.1b3pre) Gecko/20090117 Shredder/3.0b2pre

i have noticed most (cannot tell for sure if all) of this issues to with build:
> Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-US; rv:1.9.1b3pre) Gecko/20081204 Thunderbird/3.0b1

if you need further information, do not hesitate to ask!

cheers,
raoul

TESTCASES:

i have emails with the subject: [wien]

case 1 - filtering by a simple text *OK*
1) i enter "wien"
2) the message list is filtered
3) OK

case 2 - hitting enter does not work *NOT OK*
1) i enter "wien" (without "") into the quick search box (qsb)
2) the message list is filtered
3) i hit enter
4) the message list is empty
5) NOT OK

case 3 - extending the quick search *NOT OK*
1) i enter "wi" into the qsb
2) the message list is filtered
3) i wait 2 seconds, deem that i have to refine my search
4) i enter "en" (so the text is now "wien")
5) the message list is empty
6) NOT OK

case 4 - editing the quick search using backspace *SOMETIMES OK*
1) i enter "wein" into the qsb
2) the message list is filtered
3) i notice my spelling mistake and try to correct it by hitting backspace, remove "ein" and enter "ien".
4) in some cases editing works, most of the time it does not
5) SOMETIMES OK

case 5 - editing the quick search *NOT OK*
1) i enter " wien"
2) the message list is filtered
3) i notice my mistake and move with the cursor back to the " w"
4) i remove the leading space
5) the message list is empty
6) NOT OK

case 6 - only removing characters *NOT OK*
1) i enter "wien]"
2) the message list is filtered
3) i look around and then remove "]"
4) the message list is empty
5) NOT OK

case 7 - resetting the quick search 1 *OK*
1) i enter "wien"
2) i want to see all messages again
3) i klick the X in the qsb
4) the message list displays all messages
5) OK

case 8 - resetting the quick search 2 *OK*
1) i enter "wien"
2) i want to see all messages again
3) i remove "wien" by hitting backspace
4) the message list displays all messages
5) OK

i have another test case. i am still using windows vista business and build

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-US; rv:1.9.1.2pre) Gecko/20090724
Shredder/3.0b4pre ID:20090724050314

however, ill consider this a minor problem:

case 9 - let an addon insert text into the quick search box:

1. install "Nightly Tester Tools 2.0.2"
2. place your cursor into the quick search box
3. choose from the menu: Tools | Nightly Tester Tools | Insert Build ID into Textbox
4. i now see "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-US; rv:1.9.1.2pre) Gecko/20090724 Shredder/3.0b4pre ID:20090724050314" inside the quick search box
5. NOTOK: the message pane does not get filtered.

cheers,
