Are you talking about the value controller or the visibility controller? Had you selected some custom field to fill that role for the field? Was there a value list for that custom field?
visibility controller: Field only appears when: is set to:
Ok, I found the problem: IE (I switched to my own laptop with firefox, but never linked that with this problem).
In this case using IE 6.0 SP2 .
Summary: "is set to"-list is empty on new installation while adding new custom field with field which only appears when .. → "is set to"-dropdown is empty in IE while adding new custom field with field which only appears when ..
Although there is a problem in IE with displaying the "is set to"-list, I see that the similar functionality with custom fields having values depending on other field (on eg. enter_bug.cgi) is working in IE: selecting a certain value in one field gives the correct list of values for the depending field.
