I'm working on files for Socorro that will eventually become part of that project, but I'd like to have a remote hg repo so I can version control these files until they are merged with the project.

so, you're wanting to get access to hg in order to set up a user repo for your work? You do know that you can do version control with Hg completely locally, too, correct?

Yes, of course, but I want something remote for redundancy, and so that others can work on the files as well (at some later point).

Let me think about this and see what can be done.

Sorry to poke my nose in, but I've heard this request before and it would be really nice to have the user repos we host not be tied to the broader "2 SR vouchers, 1 from outside the company" rigor we insist on for trunk committers.
If that's not technically possible, I can file a bug which blocks this one on implementing a way to do it.
If you think that requires policy discussion, I can start a newsgroup thread. This is something that makes Hg great, and we should be enabling members of the community to use it, without introducing the additional hurdle (not to mention risk!) of giving them all moz-central access.

I think so, too...

It's ... possible. Needs some more work to get it how I'd want it, though.

Yes, we need policy. We always need more policy.

given bug 506677 comment 5 it seems like we aren't doing "personal" user repos like this, and there's certainly no policy allowing for it. Not sure what the right path forward is there, especially since afaict, socorro isn't even a project hosted in Hg...
