User-Agent: Opera/9.60 (Windows NT 6.0; U; en) Presto/2.1.1 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-US; rv:1.9.1b3pre) Dragndropping task to event view doesn't work. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. create task 2. dragndrop it to day/week/etc view Actual Results: Error message "An error occurred when writing to the calendar Home!" Log has 2 messages: "Warning: There has been an error reading data for calendar: Home. However, this error is believed to be minor, so the program will attempt to continue. Error code: DUPLICATE_ID. Description: ID already exists for addItem" "Error: An error occurred when writing to the calendar Home! Error code: MODIFICATION_FAILED. Description: Source File: file:///C:/Program%20Files/Mozilla%20Sunbird/modules/calUtils.jsm -> file:///C:/Program%20Files/Mozilla%20Sunbird/calendar-js/calCalendarManager.js Line: 890" Expected Results: Task should be converted to event and placed where the mouse button was released. Or task's dates should be set. Or maybe nothing - without the error message. Anyway, I have no idea what is supposed to happen - as it crashes every time :) Tried with the latest release and latest nightly with the same result.

Currently you can't duplicate tasks or events via drag'n'drop to the view. Dragging a task to view should not convert to events because the view displays both events and tasks (if enabled in view menu). To create a new event from the task choose "Convert To > Event..." from the tasks context menu in the task list.
Summary: Crash on task dragndrop to event view (DUPLICATE_ID error code) → Error on task dragndrop to event view (DUPLICATE_ID error code)
Firstly, if tasks are not supposed to be converted to events via drag'n'drop, then at least a more comprehensible error message should be popped up. The suggestion to perform the conversion via "Convert To" from a task's popup and enter the task's data (especially it's date and time) in the dialog is, IMHO, too cumbersome. My submitted patch allows for drag'n'drop of tasks to either a multiday view or a month view. In the former case, the task is converted to an event at the corresponding date/time. In the latter case, the task is converted with a dialog, where the date is already set correspondingly and, thus, only the time is to be set. When examining the patch, please consider that this is my first contribution to any Mozilla product.
(In reply to comment #2) > Created an attachment (id=364667) [details] > Calendar 0.9: Drag'n'drop conversion of tasks into events Richard, it seems this patch is against for Sunbird/Lightning 0.9, but we already have 1.0pre builds. Please, have a look at http://www.mozilla.org/projects/calendar/faq.html#DEVELOP. Thanks for looking at the code, and creating a patch. :)
I can't reproduce the error using Thunderbird 3.0b3pre (20090226) with Lightning 1.0pre (20090228). The behavior of drag and drop from the task list to the view is the following: Multiweek and Month view: Start and due date of the task is adjusted to the day the task was dropped on. Day and Week view: Dropping to the all-day section adjusts the start and due date of the task and marks them as all-day. Dropping to the hour section is not possible. Drag and drop of a task in the view (after enabling the task in view option) adjusts the start and due date accordingly. It should not convert the task to an event as requested by the reporter.
WFM per previous comment.
As a measure to reduce the number of issues to a more manageable amount I am closing off this bug because it has been filed before 2010 and is still in the "unconfirmed" state and it has not recently been changed. If this is still an issue, please test with the latest version of Thunderbird and Lightning and comment on the bug, I am happy to reopen it. Thank you for your understanding!
