i cannot confirm your screenshots with build
> Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-US; rv:1.9.1b3pre) Gecko/20090117 Shredder/3.0b2pre

i can however confirm, that there seem to be issues with new mail in this view. it feels like an off-by-one error.

i had the following emails in my mailbox. the prefix R/U shows their read/unread status. i use imap4.

# state time subject
> R 10:33 AW: AW: Programm
> R 10:17 [Wien] Danke
> U 09:56 Re: Der Standard
> ...

i then set the described settings:
> U 09:56 Re: Der Standard
> ...

i sent a test email. subject "test". i saw

> U 12:37 test
> R 10:33 AW: AW: Programm
> ...

so a read email - the topmost actually - reappeared

i sent some other test-emails and hit "Get Mail" to fetch new mail. i saw the
the new email arrive and the used-to-be-new email disappear. e.g.

current emails:
> U 12:39 test3
> U 12:38 test2
> U 12:37 test
> R 10:33 AW: AW: Programm
> R 10:17 [Wien] Danke
> U 09:56 Re: Der Standard

apply settings - message list shows:
> U 12:38 test2
> U 12:37 test
> U 09:56 Re: Der Standard

please note the missing test3 email!

sending testmail and hitting "Get Mail".

> U 12:49 finaltest
> U 12:39 test3
> U 12:37 test
> U 09:56 Re: Der Standard

so test2 disappeared. i can send further mails and can receive emails from
someone else. test2 stays disappeared.

> U 12:50 finaltest3
> U 12:50 finaltest2
> U 12:49 (emtpy subject)
> U 12:49 finaltest
> U 12:39 test3
> U 12:37 test
> U 09:56 Re: Der Standard

notice: test2 stays disappeared.

i now switched the folder to "Drafts" and after loading finished right back to "Inbox":

> U 12:50 finaltest2
> U 12:49 (emtpy subject)
> U 12:49 finaltest
> U 12:39 test3
> U 12:38 test2
> U 12:37 test
> U 09:56 Re: Der Standard

please notice that finaltest3 disappeared whilst test2 reappeared. so: the topmost - in this case unread - email is gone. hitting "Get Mail" does not
change anything.

sending another test-mail: "unreadtest"

> U 12:54 unreadtest
> U 12:50 finaltest3
> U 12:49 (emtpy subject)
> U 12:49 finaltest
> U 12:39 test3
> U 12:38 test2
> U 12:37 test
> U 09:56 Re: Der Standard

again - the two topmost mails "switch" in their visibility. finaltest2 is gone, finaltest3 re-appears.

i now mark "unreadtest" read. the read email stays in the message list. i hit
"Get Mail" - nothing changes. i switch to Draft and back to Inbox. "unreadtest"
is gone, which is ok as it is now R (read).

> U 12:50 finaltest3
> U 12:50 finaltest2
> U 12:49 (emtpy subject)
> U 12:49 finaltest
> U 12:39 test3
> U 12:38 test2
> U 12:37 test
> U 09:56 Re: Der Standard

i send another email: "bugzilla444536" and hit "Get Mail". the message list now looks this way:

> U 12:57 bugzilla444536
> R 12:54 unreadtest
> U 12:50 finaltest2
> U 12:49 (emtpy subject)
> U 12:49 finaltest
> U 12:39 test3
> U 12:38 test2
> U 12:37 test
> U 09:56 Re: Der Standard

please note that a) bugzilla444536 is correctly fetched and displayed, b) unreadtest (R) re-appears and c) finaltest3 (U) disappears.

hopefully, this is related to this issue and helps to track this bug down

cheers,
raoul
