Community Editions are no longer authorized. Therefore, please delete the Community Edition page at http://www.mozilla.org/foundation/trademarks/community-edition-policy.html. We are in the process of updating the trademark policy and expect to have a new policy posted by the end of February, which will also delete the "Community Editions" section in the Trademark Policy.

Copying Frank and Gerv so they're aware of this. I'll remove this page today.
I've removed the page from CVS and have also removed the link from our Policies page: http://www.mozilla.org/about/policies/ The page itself won't go away until tomorrow due to the way the site builds. Please feel free to reopen if you're still seeing the page tomorrow.

The community editions page has been deleted (http://www.mozilla.org/foundation/trademarks/community-edition-policy.html). We are in the process of updating the trademark policy and will be posted when finalized.
Catherine, should we redirect the URL of the removed Community Edition to a new page to avoid confusion for anyone? If so, what page would you suggest?
I think that the more honest solution would be to leave community-edition-policy.html as 404 (it offers a link to archived version of this page after all) and remove "Community Editions" section from "Mozilla Trademark Policy" (http://www.mozilla.org/foundation/trademarks/policy.html) page altogether, since Community Editions are terminated by you... (Probably there is no other page left on mozilla.org that links to community-edition-policy.html, but I could be wrong...)
Linking to the archived version of the page is certainly an option. Linking there, or anywhere else, would probably be preferable to the current 404 page.
It's the beginning of April. Where is the new policy? And is there more information on: Community Editions are no longer authorized. Why wasn't this publicized?

As suggested in the thread above, we can't leave a 404 page. Catherine is preparing draft text for the page that contains the discontinue notice, the rationale, reference to the governance discussion, and clarification that this is prospective only and doesn't impact past users of the program. /hja

The problem is that reading this thread in Google Groups requires JavaScript enabled. So, I think that for the sake of maximum availability linking to the non-required-JS site is preferable...
For information: it seems that work on a new content of http://www.mozilla.org/foundation/trademarks/community-edition-policy.html has been carried on in bug 486785 (why no message here about this bug ID?!)...

The Community Edition URL is no longer returning a 404 page now that a notice has been posted and the reference to Community Editions has been removed from the Trademarks policy page. I recommend that we either close this bug or rename it to something like 'Add link to governance discussion about Community Edition policy' to address comment #14.
The original draft had a link to the discussion at governance and we can add it back it for now. In the future the link may be dropped simply because it may no longer be a matter of interest. Once the link is added, we can close this bug.
OK, the link is there (I used the link from comment #14). Closing as fixed.
