The attempt to delete a bookmarks colection with many nested folders was so pathologically slow that I gave up after half on hour!  

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Make sure you have an obsolete folder with a few pages of bookmarks
2. Try to delete that folder (left frame in places) by hitting the delete key

Note: You can _copy_ a folder instead of searching for obsolete ones. (This may also be slow)
Actual Results:  
1. The disk works hard (on my system one second per screen o bookmarks)
2. Success, but after a few seconds.

Expected Results:  
Same but without excessive disk work, and faster.

You can speed up things by doing a trick by hand...

Performance trick:
1. Click the folder (in the left frame)
2. Click a bookmark (in the right frame)
3. Mark all bookmarks (Ctrl-A)
4. Hit the delete key
5. Click the folder (in the left frame) again
5. Hit the delete key again

The results are the same, but the disk doesn't work that hard, and it works much faster, especially if you have many many pages of bookmarks! FF shold be clearly optimized here!

Bug 451915 - move Firefox/Places bugs to Firefox/Bookmarks and History. Remove all bugspam from this move by filtering for the string "places-to-b-and-h".

In Thunderbird 3.0b, you do that as follows:
Tools | Message Filters
Make sure the correct account is selected. Click "New"
Conditions: Body   contains   places-to-b-and-h
Change the action to "Delete Message".
Select "Manually Run" from the dropdown at the top.
Click OK.

Select the filter in the list, make sure "Inbox" is selected at the bottom, and click "Run Now". This should delete all the bugspam. You can then delete the filter.
