Often have an existing bookmark that I want to move within my bookmark hierarchy or just delete it. I don't know where to find, so I open the bookmark manager, type something in the search field and get a list of hits. But what now? I can't delete it from there and moving is quite unintuitive, I'd like to d&d it.

So it would be very nice if I could either select the bookmark, clear the search field and the selected bookmark would still be selected, within its unfolded hierarchy.
Or other way, offer a item in the context menu like "show in hierarchy".

Reproducible: Always
This is a long term frustration for me as well. Example - I recently accidentally moved one of my toolbar bookmarks into a toolbar folder. This is easy to do, particularly if the machine is slow just then.

Now what. I would search for the bookmark, but the only way I could find where it had gone was to export my bookmarks as html, and decode the html by hand. OK, as I write this I realize I could open the bookmark.html I exported with the browser and make the search easier. But this is just not a sensible UI for the average user.

As an example, chrome has a show in folder option on the right click menu of the bookmark search which jumps to the containing folder in the bookmark manager view.
I think the bookmarks search of Opera 10 has a great usability, Firefox should have the same behaviour. It's very frustrating when you search for a bookmark location and there is no way to find the path to it.

Confirming, this is still an issue with the new Places-based Bookmark Manager. You can delete, move (cut) or d&d found bookmarks (all of which you can do in SM 2.0, too), but not find their position in the hierarchy. You can do that if you have xSidebar installed in SM 2.0, but for SM 2.1 I currently know no such workaround. Maybe there's a Firefox add-on that could be ported. :-/

There is - by Alice0775 IIRC. but IMHO it should be in our bookmark UI code.

For position there is Bug 56418 and all original report's problems are gone now so closing this as WFM
