mozgn.css has the search box at the top of the main area. We need a second version of mozgn.css, but with the search box on the side.

Chris, like the one on
https://support-stage.mozilla.org/tiki-searchresults.php?locale=en-US&q=firefox&sa=
?
Where should this be placed?

yes, like that. Most other templates also have the search box on the right, including mozkb.css.

Chris: can you answer the second question too? Or what is the purpose of having one? I'd like more details...

Sorry for not answering. Where should what be placed?
This is similar to bug 465872, but instead of editing mozgn.css, we want something like mozgn2.css or mozgn-sidebar.css.

The correct answer to that is:
Any case in which we would use mozgn.css, but think it would be more appropriate to have the search box on the sidebar, rather than before the page content.
The immediate usecase is:
People arriving at the Ask a question page *via search results* shouldn't be presented with search box before the Ask a question page content.

Okay Chris, try this out on https://support-stage.mozilla.org/tiki-theme_control_objects.php
I know I asked a lot of questions, hope I did the right thing!

Do you have to set up something in the URL in comment 7, Chris, before we can see this? I tried the testcase in comment 6 and see the giant search box on http://support-stage.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Ask+a+question.

<https://support-stage.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Ask+a+question> is now assigned to mozgn2.css.
I don't see any search box.

does the sidebar module need to be applied to the new theme?

I preincluded (in the template itself) the sidebar module for the other pages. You're right Chris, I forgot to add it here.
