in about:config look for importBookmarksHTML and set it to false. Does this help?
Version: unspecified → 3.0 Branch
No, it does not help. My Mac does not have an about:config filter called "digit importbookmarksHTML" but does have "browser.places.importBookmarksHTML". It was already set to "false." Perhaps this only occurs with Mac Power PC's OS 10.4, but it is pretty frustrating to have a browser that does not remember bookmarks, so I wish Firefox would fix it.
I may have fixed the problem on my machine.
Refer to my postings dated 2009-02-12 and 2009-02-26 for BUG 474588
I have the same bug. I do not have a Mac. I have Win XP-Pro SP2...
I do not know how long I have had it. Awhile.
I have a workaround - so it is merely an inconvenience, but still...
Workaround (for me) : Back up the bookmarks. (--->go to Organize Bookmarks... Import and Backup... Backup... Save (to Desktop))
Originally, I did that so that when I started up the next day, I could
just Import the bookmarks. However, when I started up the next day, the
bookmarks were there, and no Import was necessary.
I tested the bug yesterday, after 3.0.7 had automatically been updated a day or two previously. I went to a page, selected Bookmark This Page, created a folder, saved the bookmark in that folder, and then went to 3 more pages and saved them all to the new folder (note: the same thing happens if I just add to an already-existing folder). When I exited, I left the 5 or so windows (I have had as many as 13 or 14, I think) (with many tabs per window) open and selected Save and Quit, as I usually do. Next day on startup - windows/tabs all there,
new bookmarks NOT there.
This bug feels like as simple a problem as a BookmarksChanged flag not being set
to TRUE when a bookmark is added. Thus if FF decides whether or not to save the current bookmarks when exiting by whether the flag is TRUE or not, it thinks nothing has changed and does not save. If someone manually backs up the bookmarks, it does set the flag to TRUE (and therefore saves the bookmarks upon exit).
I don't know if this is really the situation, but it's simple, and it would certainly have the observed effect.
I use firefox on the PC and my bookmarks are disappearing, also after restarting firefox.
btw this WFM, there must be some bad config in those profiles.
