Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.2; en-US; rv:1.9.1b3pre) Gecko/20090208 Shredder/3.0b2pre

Per bug 449821, I've created a new bug to deal with the issue that simply enabling mail.thread_without_re will not allow messages with the same subject to thread as it previously did; enabling this pref does not change or enable threading if it is the only threading option changed from default.

There is a workaround which requires enabling the mail.strict_threading (along with a reboot and index rebuild); however I don't know what the technical ramifications are for this workaround (e.g. is there a situation where there is a delta in behavior with them both enabled, compared to the prior behavior when just mail.thread_without_re was enabled).

As of Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.1; en-US; rv: Gecko/20091030 Shredder/3.0pre, mail.thread_without_re appears to be broken. Oddly enough, when I did the update from the Monday or Tuesday version, it reset my mail.strict_threading settings as well as the mail.correct_threading settings; however resetting them to any combination of true and false does not seem to have any effect, even though the combination of the following used to work:

mail.thread_without_re true
mail.correct_threading true
mail.strict_threading false
Severity: minor → normal

Thanks for referencing Javi.

I have applied the settings from above but neither do these work in my case. Can I provide any additional information to help solving the issue?

Note that those do not affect messages already downloaded. (Maybe if you repair the folder though.)

Hi Magnus,

I repaired the folder and indeed with the below settings the mails are grouped. Thanks for that hint!

mail.thread_without_re true
mail.correct_threading true
mail.strict_threading false
