Description

In Mac PPV nightly build 2000080508 for M18, when the document at java.sun.com
is loaded, instead of its applets being loaded, the following message appears in
a pop-up window:

Netscape cannot find the Plugin Downloader Plugin.
Without the Plugin Downloader Plugin, you cannot
  automatically download and install plugins.
  [...]

An earlier PPC M18 nightly, on August 1, does not exhibit this problem.

Same thing happens for me with build 2000080508-M18 under Mac OS 9.0.4, MRJ 2.2,
carbon libs 1.0.4 on an iMac DV.

I'm guessing someone's already working on this... this is really a riff on bug
#36381.

Mac mozilla seems to not come with java preinstalled. Mac was the only platform
that included java with the nightly builds. I suspect this was intentional and
I've sent email asking for clarification.

Sent an email to JJ (jj@netscape.com) to see why java isn't built into the
mac builds. Waiting to confirm on responce.

I received a reply from jj yesterday. Here it is:

This is part of the hot topics of things to get into the mac build.
Like mentioned in the bug, no one owns Java on mac right now, but this
will be
taken care of Very Soon Now.

cc'ing some of the people that might have additional input on this topic.

As far as Release is concerned, we still build and package the MRJ
plugin as
part of the regular build.

I'm not so sure about Very Soon Now -- see drapeau's comment at the
end of this bug: <http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=41880>

We're not talking about MRJ, but about the code ownership of the MRJ
PLUGIN itself, which should not be consused with MRJ (the Mac OS
Runtime for Java). I spoke with Clayton about the Sun ownership of
OJI in general earlier today. I am pressing for some changes in that
department.

The MRJ has been included with every Mac OS for some time now, and
Apple specifically requested that we not ship it.

Hope this helps

In nightly build 2000090110 Mac PPC, the applets at java.sun.com are loaded,
albeit they have positioning problems that have previous been seen. The plug-in
problem appears to come and go in the nightly builds.

I recommend closing this bug.
