I have several different accounts in the Thunderbird sidebar on my Mac. I normally have them 'closed', ie not showing the Inbox, etc, subfolders. When new emails are received the icon in the Dock changes to show how many have arrived. The account names to which the emails are addressed are highlighted by changing them from black to bold blue text. When the account name 'triangle' is then clicked on to show the subfolders, the Inbox is also highlighted in the same way.
This all happens whether the Thunderbird window is open on the desktop, minimised to the Dock, or closed with Thunderbird still running 'in the background', ie closed but not quit.
Well, this was, up until version 2.0.0.16 I think it was, the normal way that Thunderbird worked.
Since then, when the window is closed with Thunderbird still running 'in the background', the behaviour has changed. The account names are no longer highlighted when new emails arrive. So when the window is opened, you have no idea to which account the emails have come. Very frustrating. Fortunately, when each account is 'opened' the inboxes are still highlighted though only in bold black text.
So now I have to remember NOT to click on the close button to shut the window and leave Thunderbird working 'in the background', but to click on the minimise button to send the window to the end of the Dock.

Rex, anyone, is this also seen still in version 3?
I just requested feedback in a similar Bug 469658] account not highlighted for new mail when Thunderbird running in background

Hi Wayne. I am still using v.2.0.0.23 on my Mac laptop, so I cannot comment at the mo! The only change I have made is to get a new MacBook laptop running Snow Leopard, but the fault is still there, unfortunately.
