Do you get this in the Firefox safemode ?
http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode

Do you also crash if you open about:plugins ?
Please provide a Stack trace with symbols, for Mozilla.org builds use http://developer.mozilla.org/En/How_to_get_a_stacktrace_for_a_bug_report and for Ubuntu ask the Ubuntu support.

typically that'd mean a plugin is crashing (specifically GCJ).

You could try about:plugins to get versions for stuff.

There are a couple of ways to disable plugins, you should be able to find one that works.
