I'd expect CZ to just try "newnick", or at worst "oldnick_". Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Pick a nick that's already on the server as your default nick. 2. Use /server to connect 3. Before connection is fully established, do a /nick Actual Results: I get my nick changed to "newnick_" Expected Results: I get my nick changed to "newnick"
Having had a poke about the source, and attempted to reproduce the behaviour, I can't see any obvious cause and can't make it occur on-demand. Could you clarify at what point the /nick is done - i.e. (to the best of your knowledge) what lines from the connection have appeared, and which havent? (Copy and paste them into a bug comment, by all means.)
