Now that bug 469294 is fixed, we no longer need dated filenames for xulrunner debs. It uses extra disk and clutters up http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/latest-mobile-browser/ I've taken a look and I *think* this is MOZ_DEB_TIMESTAMP but that may be used elsewhere. I can keep digging but I have the feeling that someone in the mobile team knows where this is specifically.
bug 469294 is not the reason we have the date in the file name. We put the buildid in the version so we fennec can be sure its using a new enough xulrunner on maemo. Otherwise updating fennec will not pick up an updated xulrunner.
Hm. This will probably be a bit ugly in the Extras repository; it would be preferable to control this via version/build numbering if possible. I'm not entirely sure what the constraints here are though.
I'd love to get rid of the version string if we can ensure that updates work without it.
Ok, reading up on deb files, and comment #1 makes sense. I suppose we're adding the date to the xulrunner deb but not the fennec deb because the fennec deb will change versions more often? Or should we rename the fennec deb?
