This is actually a problem with Windows itself, not Thunderbird... It's somehow lost your preference for default web browser. Thunderbird is telling Windows "go open this URL in a web browser" and Windows is saying "I don't know which browser to use so I just won't".
The fix is to go in the preferences in Firefox and tell it to check if it's the default browser or not, and let it set itself as the default when it discovers that it isn't. You just got more-complete instructions from me in email, in response to your email to bugzilla-admin before someone on IRC pointed out this bug and I said "hey, I just mailed someone about that same problem" :)
Being that this is actually a support issue and not a bug, closing the bug report out. http://support.mozilla.com/ will have better resources to help you if you don't get it working again with the instructions I mailed you a little bit ago.
