Summary: new beta hangs on install → hangs trying to update to 3.0.7 (beta channel)
To troubleshoot this we'll need the last-update.log from when it failed which is located in the Firefox package in the updates folder. The one after a successful update won't provide any info to help figure this out regretfully. Could you try to reproduce and if it hangs again attach the last-update.log to this bug?

Marcia / Sam... can either of you reproduce?
Robert, with that comment I can make a point of saving the last-update.log file (and anything else?) when this happens. I have seen this problem before, but it's not easy to reproduce.

Please save the entire updates directory after downloading the update and prior to applying the update as well.

Do you know how long has this been going on?
Any update on this (e.g. comment #3)?
No other reports, this is wfm, and no reply to comment #3... resolving -> incomplete.
