RESOLVED DUPLICATE of bug 316916

People

(Reporter: eldeh, Unassigned)

Details

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; de; rv:1.8.1.16) Gecko/20080702 Firefox/2.0.0.16
Build Identifier: Lightning 0.9.0

In the today panes and the main task view it is not possible to filter (often long) task / todo lists by category. This could often be more useful then just sorting by category and scrolling.

Perhaps, this could be also of interest for events.

Reproducible: Always
OS: Linux → All
Hardware: x86 → All
Status: UNCONFIRMED → NEW
Ever confirmed: true
It should also be possible to filter the event list by category. It will be also helpful, if it is possible to create a view, which shows the events/tasks by category (each category as node, which could be expanded/collapsed, like a "file-explorer").

I can't imagine how UI for this should look. What if you want to filter by multiple categories? The filters are rather a simple mechanism to change the scope, we shouldn't put anything too advanced (i.e requiring more than just a simple radio button) in there.

I rather think we should provide possibilities to search for tasks (bug 316916), this way the user can say "I want to search for tasks, that are in the category A or category B" and if we support multiple categories even "A and B".

This sounds more like something for an extension, very interesting though.

I'm going to go ahead and mark this bug duplicate of the search for tasks bug. I hope thats ok with you?

sorry, but I don't agree with you that this is a duplicate of bug 316916. In bug 316916 it could be added to search by category. It should be possible to use categories in views with the expand/collapse function. This should be a core function not an extension. Other calender-software has this function too. Why not Lightning?!
Maybe I don't understand then. Could you provide a screenshot of what you mean? Our task filter pane should only contain basic options, unless we revise the whole filter options pane.

I'm not sold on making the category selection hierarchical, especially since at some point we should be able to apply multiple categories. Putting this into the task filter pane causes it to be much like a search: You are specifying multiple categories, then you might want to filter by due date, etc.
