User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.1b2) Gecko/20081201 Firefox/3.1b2 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.1b2) Gecko/20081201 Firefox/3.1b2 File downloads hang if the main Firefox window is closed. The downloads are easily resumed by pausing and then restarting the download. I have observed this behaviour with a single tab open and a single file download. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Open Firefox and find a file to download. 2. Start the file download and select Save to Disk (if prompted). 3. The Download Manager appears. Before the download completes, click 'X' to close the main Firefox window. The Download Manager window should remain on-screen and (probably) have focus. 4. The download is hung. Click Pause and then Restart to continue the download. Actual Results: Download hangs and must be paused and restarted. Expected Results: Download should continue to completion without user intervention. I have Firefox 2.x, 3.x and 3.1b2 installed for testing. Extensions installed: * Firebug 1.4X.0a12 * Flashblock 1.5.8 * Java Quick Starter 1.0 (grayed out) * Live HTTP Headers 0.14 (disabled at startup of browser; not compatible) Themes installed: * Default 3.1b2 Add-ons installed: * Adobe Acrobat 9.0.0.332 * Java Platform SE 6 U12 6.0.120.4 * Java Platform SE 6 U12 DLL Helper 6.0.120.4 * Microsoft DRM Netscape Network Object 9.0.0.4503 * Microsoft DRM Store Netscape Plugin 9.0.0.4503 * Mozilla Default Plug-in 1.0.0.15 * Shockwave Flash 10.0.12.36 * Windows Media Player Plug-in DLL 3.0.2.629

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.1b3pre) Gecko/20090215 Shiretoko/3.1b3pre Works normally here. Please try safe-mode or a new profile. http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Basic+Troubleshooting#Make_a_new_profile
This problem occurs on my machine at work, an older P4 machine. I have tried this in a Parallels VM at home and it did not reproduce. I will try to reproduce it at work again and capture it on video. If that succeeds, I can then try a nightly build to see if the problem has been fixed.
I have confirmed that it is repeatable on my work machine. I created a video of the process which I will attach shortly (sorry for the poor quality; I did a Remote Desktop session from home over VPN using low quality display settings). I then tried it Safe Mode. The problem does not occur.
OK, I can't upload a video that large. It's on my website at: http://www.bjandjo.ca/firefox/firefox-download-hang.avi
If this does not happen in safe mode, it is most likely an addon that is causing it. Please disable them until you find the problem, and report to the developer of the addon. A new profile can help locate the issue.

It appears to be caused by Firebug. I'll notify the developer and point him/her to this bug report.
