Details

(Whiteboard: [closeme 2009-04-06])

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X 10.4; en-US; rv:1.9.0.7) Gecko/2009021906 Firefox/3.0.7
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X 10.4; en-US; rv:1.9.0.7) Gecko/2009021906 Firefox/3.0.7

you can type into the search toolbar, but pressing enter or any other act will not cause the search to run. Nothing occurs. It doesn't work as of the new version that Firefox downloaded without my consent when I started the previous version, the one that worked fully. Most annoying.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.type querry in the search toolbar
2.press enter
3.watch nothing happen
Actual Results:
nothing , it fails to work

Expected Results:
it should have searched google or the selected search engine, none of them work

Firefox should not be automatically updating itself, thats a security threat to my computer.
Reporter, could you please start Firefox in Safe Mode and check if the search field is working? See http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe Mode.

If it is a success you should disable any installed extension step by step. It will give hopefully the one which is causing this trouble. If that's also not the case then please open the profile folder (http://support.mozilla.com/en-Us/kb/profiles) and temporarily move the formhistory.sqlite to another folder while Firefox is closed. Does that help and the search bar is functional again?

It could be a dupe of bug 338763.
@Reporter, we have not heard back from you in a while, so I am closing this bug as INCOMPLETE. You can reopen this bug if more information becomes available. Some helpful information you can provide us is found at http://quality.mozilla.org/bug-writing-guidelines. You should also use a recent version of Firefox, from http://www.getfirefox.com.

This should really be fixed by the work on bug 472064. See bug 472064 comment 1 how to fix an existing formhistory.sqlite. Marking as dupe instead.
