If a user posts their question in a thread that has nothing to do with his/her question, we should be able to detach the post from the thread, so the new user question has its own thread.
This is a really good idea. I'll investigate.

How soon would we like to have this, team? I could get my brother to do a mockup, if we want something fancier than a "Detach" plain link added next to each post.
This should just be part of the normal moderator UI toolbar shouldn't it?
Created attachment 385305 [details] propsed place for UI The moderator toolbar is only displayed when viewing the thread list. For this, we would need to specify which post in the thread to detach, so I assume it would go along side the Edit, Delete, and Report icons. (screenshot attached)
This can be part of the ForumUX release. We will need an icon for the "detach" button. Any proposals?
Severity: normal → enhancement
Summary: Ability to detach posts from a thread → [ForumUX] Ability to detach posts from a thread
Created attachment 387747 [details] [diff] [review] patch, v1 This uses the icon at https://svn.mozilla.org/projects/sumo/trunk/webroot/pics/icons/task_submitted.png I also created to permissions, analogous to the "edit" permission, to allow for flexibility of which user groups we want to be able to detach posts. A SQL patch will follow for these.
Created attachment 387750 [details] [diff] [review] SQL patch Run the SQL patch to be able to test with other users that do not have the admin forum permission.
After deploying this, we'll need to give these new permissions to the Forum Moderators group (Putting this note here because we'll forget in a month)
Comment on attachment 387747 [details] [diff] [review] patch, v1 That was surprisingly simple :)

I know right? In r48715 on the ForumUX branch. Will need to run the SQL there before it's testable. I'll wait a bit to see if any other SQL's get r+ed today :)
