User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.0.7) Gecko/2009030422 Ubuntu/8.10 (intrepid) Firefox/3.0.7 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.0.7) Gecko/2009030422 Ubuntu/8.10 (intrepid) Firefox/3.0.7 I'm using Kubuntu 8.10 32bit with KDE v4.2.1, in KDE I set up several virtual desktops. Firefox has a feature named "Search as you type" (I use it a lot when translating KDE). If I start typing then Firefox instantly shows search bar (at the bottom of window) and in web page searches for my typed text and highlights what found. If I stop typing then after few seconds Firefox hides search bar. If I switch to another desktop once I stop typing then after ~5 s (when Firefox auto-hides search bar) auto-switch to Firefox desktop occurs. I think that is not good when Firefox aggressively steals focus. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Enable "search when type"; 2. When web page loaded then start typing something for search; 3. When You stop typing then immediately (before search bar auto-hides) switch to another virtual desktop; 4. Wait few second for search bar in Firefox auto-hides. Actual Results: Desktop automatically switches back to Firefox desktop. Expected Results: Firefox must "silently" auto-hide search bar

I have the same problem. While programming I often search something in the API docu, switch to the editor, start editing, and after 5sec I'm suddenly back in Firefox.

Confirmed in Gnome with: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.0.14) Gecko/2009090923 Red Hat/3.0.14-1.el5_4 Firefox/3.0.14 For me, if I am on another virtual desktop, Firefox does not steal focus, but only appears on the taskbar and flashes. If I am on the *same* virtual desktop, it steals focus. Both behaviors are incorrect, but the second is much more of a problem.

I just tested the latest hg version from today; the bug has been replaced by another. Instead of the faulty focus grab the symptom is now that you're unable to search again with the keyboard. I need to click into the page widget before a new type-search is possible. This is necessary only when I actually switch desktop before the search entry widget disappears, exactly what would have triggered the original bug...

Reporter, please retest with Firefox 3.6.12 or later in a fresh profile (http://support.mozilla.com/kb/Managing+profiles). Also update your plugins (flash, adobe reader, java, quicktime, silverlight, etc.) Go to the developer's website and download the latest version from there. If you no longer see this issue, please close this bug as RESOLVED, WORKSFORME. If you do see the bug, please post a comment.
