The projects/camino/ and projects/chimera/ directories still have content in them even though those pages are being redirected. We should remove those files and reset up any redirects as needed.
If products/camino still has content in it, that content can be removed, too.

We just need to keep the redirects, as recent versions of Camino still ship with a number of those URLs in the app (and of course anyone who has been using Camino for a while and who hasn't ever changed their homepage will still actively be using the mozilla.org page as the homepage).
Good point about products/camino. I just took a look and there are a few image files in there.

Keeping the redirects is no problem. I'm just looking to delete files that aren't in use.
OS: Mac OS X → All
Hardware: x86 → All
Unless you can confirm that they haven't got any hits in the last, say, month, we should setup redirects for:

  * http://www.mozilla.org/products/camino/badges/80x15.gif
    to: http://caminobrowser.org/images/badges/80x15.gif
  * http://www.mozilla.org/products/camino/badges/190x65.png
    to: http://caminobrowser.org/images/badges/190x65.png
  * http://www.mozilla.org/products/camino/badges/banner.png
    to: http://caminobrowser.org/images/badges/banner.png

Besides that, as long as the other .htaccess changes are moved to the top-level (or /projects/?), everything can be removed.
Attached is a report of all page views for camino URLs in 2009. I don't see any of those links mentioned in #3, although it couldn't hurt to redirect them.
Naw, don't worry about it. Remove them without redirects.
OK, I've just archived

/projects/camino
/projects/chimera
/products/camino

and moved the redirects I found to the top-level .htaccess file.

Please verify that everything is still working correctly. I suggest checking now and checking tomorrow since the site updates every 30 minutes or so but deleted pages are only removed once a day.

BTW, I can't tell if something is still in the /products/camino directory. I don't see anything locally but the directory is still there after a cvs up -dP

David, thanks for doing this. I went through and checked the list of URLs that have shipped in the client and also legit URLs mentioned in your log. Everything redirects correctly, with the exception of the changes I'm attaching in this patch.

The reason that products/camino won't go away is that it contains the following five files:

products/camino/.htaccess
products/camino/badges/190x65.png
products/camino/badges/80x15.gif
products/camino/badges/2004 banner.png
products/camino/images/icon.png

The middle three images are the ones Sam said could just be deleted without a redirect (comment 5), and the icon.png file I'm sure was used on our now-deleted products/camino pages. You've already migrated the .htaccess rules, so that file is superfluous, too.

Someone who has a tree can apply this patch and update the higher-level .htaccess redirects and remove the remaining files in one fell swoop, as I've included the file deletions.
Let's reopen this bug so David sees the patch to apply.

It looks like my CVS commit to remove the files failed part way through because of the space in the "2004 banner.png" file name. I need to go figure out how to escape the space for that one.

I'll also look at the patch in a minute.
I updated the main .htaccess file with the redirects in the patch and removed all the other files except for

products/camino/badges/2004 banner.png

Maybe I'm overlooking something obvious, but I'm not seeing that either in CVS or on the old archive site where it should still exist.

http://www-archive.mozilla.org/products/camino/badges/2004%20banner.png

Maybe someone smarter than I am needs to remove that one :)

David, no, you're not missing anything; I apparently introduced a copy-paste error when pasting the list of filenames. The correct file to remove is just

products/camino/badges/banner.png

(so cvs and my patch tell me). Sorry for the confusion.
OK, removing banner.png did the trick and the directory is now empty. Closing as fixed.

Verified that all of the redirects do what I want them to do; thanks again, David!
