482125 - Unable to send E-mail

Just the past three days, When trying to send e-mail, I get the following error message:

"An error occurred sending mail: The mail server sent an incorrect greeting:  imp09 charter.net You must connect from Charter IP space.  E1110."

In repeated telephone calls to Charter Communications Technical Support, I am told the problem is not with Charter Communications; but with my Thunderbird program?

I hope you can help me solve this problem.

Hi,

This looks like an error on their side - as I supose you are not using charter to connect to the internet at the moment.

If you think it's a bug in thunderbird please give us the version of thunderbird you are using and follow the instructions at https://wiki.mozilla.org/MailNews:Logging to create the smtp logs and attach them to this bug.

When this problem first occurred, I was using Thunderbird 2.0X, and then I updated to Thunderbird 3.0b2.  The problem was the same with both Thunderbird revisions.

Richard - can you advise for the logs ? and for the fact that you are not using charter - to connect to the internt - when this issue occurs ?

At present, I am using a friend's wireless connection to the internet which is not Charter.net, and I do not know who the ISP is?

Not charter. So charter protects it's sending servers by making sure that you are connected to charter when sending emails. This is why charter is giving you this error message. That has nothing to do with Thunderbird. I could not find it but maybe charter has some secure servers where you need login+ password+ ssl to send mail - if they do ask for those settings and configure TB that way - then you should be able to send emails from anywhere in the world without too much trouble.
