User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-US; rv:1.9.0.7) Gecko/2009021910 Firefox/3.0.7 (.NET CLR 3.5.30729)
Build Identifier: version 2.0.0.19 (20081209)
This does not happen every time (unfortunately), but sometimes when I click the "show desktop" icon on Windows (Vista), tb minimizes but won't restore. Clicking on the icon in the task bar does nothing that I can see.
I can still still successfully close tb by right-clicking and choosing "Close" from the pop-up menu.
Re-starting tb gives me a tiny window that I have to stretch back out to its original size (screenshot attached).
I'm happy to instrument tb in order to get some status information from it, but I don't really know what I'm doing, so any help would be appreciated.
Reproducible: Sometimes
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Click "Show Desktop" to minimize all windows
2. Attempt to restore tb
Actual Results:
tb does not restore. Other mozilla windows *do* restore (ff, prizm).
Expected Results:
tb restores to its original view
This rarely happens, but it's a pain.

Christopher, can you reproduce with beta 2? (it has lots of windows fixes)
backup your profile data** before installing/starting it

** substitute Thunderbird for Firefox verbiage http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Backing+up+your+information

I can give it a shot. Like I said, I can't reproduce it reliably because I don't know what actually triggers it. I tend to reboot my laptop only when Vista updates come across the wire that require a reboot. I hibernate the machine repeatedly between actual reboots and I run a /lot/ of stuff all at once.
I'll upgrade to the beta and see if it ever happens again.

Wayne,
Hmm... tb3b2 isn't supported by Enigmail, which is a deal-breaker for me unfortunately. I'm going to have to downgrade until that's changed. I usually upgrade to the latest stable version whenever its available so I might be able to comment again later.

You can use the nightlies they are supported by enigmail.

Sure, I can do that. I'm looking at http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/thunderbird/nightly/ which one do I choose? latest-trunk? latest-cvs? latest-comm-central-trunk? Sorry, I'm a bit lost here.
Thanks!

I got latest-trunk. Looks like you need a nightly enigmail build, too. I suspect enigmail would have run on 3b2. Oh, well, it's done now. I'll let everyone know if this issue crops-up for me again.
Thanks for the help.

Okay, this just happened to me again using 3.0b2 (Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-US; rv:1.9.1b3pre) Gecko/20090223 Thunderbird/3.0b2), so whatever it is, it's not fixed in the more recent versions.
Let me know what I can do to help. Thanks!

One more occurrence of this behavior, also on 3.0b2 on Vista, just after an un-hibernate. I was able to get dwm to show the tiny window /without/ restarting tb by right-clicking on the taskbar item and choosing either "size" or "move" (I can't remember). Unfortunately, I can't actually get tb to do anything.
Clicking the X button causes Vista to give me the "this program has stopped responding" dialog, so something has definitely gone bad in the process somewhere.

This bug hasn't happened to me in a long time. I've been running tb 3.0 (release version) since it shipped and I don't believe I've experienced this bug during that time.

Christopher, thanks for the feedback.
Did you come to any conclusion about what was involved or caused this?

I see this behavior with Thunderbird 3.0.1 on Vista, so you're not alone Christopher. Unfortunately it's not easily reproducible.

I'm glad I'm not the only one where this has happened. As I mentioned, I haven't seen it in a very long time. And, it was next to impossible to reproduce. AFAIK, I haven't changed my usage behavior in any way between then and now.
