Protocol handlers are a new feature in Firefox 3.5 that allows links like mailto:firstname.lastname@example.org to be handled by a webmail application. In order to do that, the site needs to support a special API described on http://developer.mozilla.org/en/docs/Web-based_protocol_handlers. For en-US, we're currently shipping with GMail and Yahoo! Mail for mailto: and 30boxes for webcal: urls, and we're on a ongoing evangelism effort to add more. ms live mail are coming up shortly. For Bengali, we'd like to do that, too. First, the localization team and Stas (Stas Malolepszy) will look at the market for the language and come up with a good candidates. Jamil, we'll need your input on this, the guidelines for making recommendations are on http://wiki.mozilla.org/Firefox_web_services_guidelines. Following that is a reach out by the evangelism team to try to get the vendor to support protocol handlers. Once that happens, Stas will take over in reviewing the actual implementation, which will need to change the gecko.handlerService.* entries in bn-BD/browser/chrome/browser-region/region.properties. Please don't make changes to that file without getting a positive review by Stas or somebody else appointed by Stas/Sethb on a patch for that change upfront.

Hi Jamil, Any progress here? We'd love to see your recommendations on good candidates for setting up the protocol handlers for bn-BD. http://wiki.mozilla.org/Firefox_web_services_guidelines provides more information. If you intend to have bn-BD participate in the FF 3.5 beta 4, we'll need to have these handlers set up. Hope you can help here. Thanks so much!
mailto: GMail, Yahoo Mail and MS Live are preffered. I have checked with Firefox (bn-BD) 3.5b4pre and it seems only GMail's mailto: is working fine. Both Yahoo Mail (the classic one) and MS Live is not working. webcal: As 30 boxes is the only option for now, we will go for it.
Thanks for the update on this, Jamil. We'll move forward with the default RSS protocol handlers then. MSN Live is a known bug, so you are correct that it doesn't work. However, Yahoo should work. I have copied Kev on the bug to confirm this. Stas, looks like we can move forward with defaults for bn-BD? Please confirm.
Yes, let's move forward here. Marking as fixed as per http://hg.mozilla.org/releases/l10n-mozilla-1.9.1/bn-BD/file/6bbff1d02bed/browser/chrome/browser-region/region.properties. Thanks!

Man, look at my responsiveness here. Doh. Yahoo! Mail should definitely work, and I'm assuming it's all good. Let me know if it's not.
