User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.1b3) Gecko/20090305 Firefox/3.1b3 (.NET CLR 3.5.30729)
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.1b3) Gecko/20090305 Firefox/3.1b3 (.NET CLR 3.5.30729)
At initial daily Firefox start-up, it wants to look for a compatible add-on for Microsoft's Net Assistant 1.0. Worked OK with earlier Firefox 3.0.x released versions. Was imported from Firefox 3.0.x to the beta during install. Also, "uninstall" option for MNFA 1.0 in add-ons pane greyed out and unavailable.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. First Firefox start-up of the day.
2.
3.
Actual Results:
It will look for compatible add-on (which there isn't one presently) and then move on. I will open the add-ons window to check status and Net Framework Assistant 1.0 will have the red "!" mark to the left, but the option to uninstall will be greyed out.
Expected Results:
At the very least, give the option to uninstall the add-on. Ideally, the beta should work with the add-on.
Considering that this add-on worked in the previous released versions of 3.0.x, this is either an omission during code transfer to the beta, or an error in debugging the beta. Although you can turn off auto-updates using the options/advanced tab, novice users will more than likely remain vulnerable because there is a potential for this to be exploited by malicious code.

More likely, Microsoft needs to make an update to their code here.

Indeed, there doesn't appear to be a Firefox bug here.

This should probably be tracked as all users upgrading their .NET framework automatically get this extension. The fact that it cannot be uninstalled (at least getting a notification for it) is bug 478487.
Status: UNCONFIRMED → NEW
Aurora 14.0a2 'Updater Checker?' runs every half dozen times you start Aurora and asks to check your Add-ons for compatibility.
If you agree it gets stuck on "MS .Net Framework Assistant" and greys out the [Cancel] Button when it _claims_ it is installing it.
OUR Bug is that the Button is greyed and the only way to cancel the purported installation is with the red [X].
MS's Bug might be that the Add-on is due for an upgrade BUT they are not obligated to upgrade their Add-on (nor is anyone else).
It comes back to us to Blacklist that version OR download and install it (like the 'Updater Checker' says it is doing) AND we need to enable the [Cancel] Button.

This is about a legacy extension which is no longer valid in Firefox Quantum, closing.
